Sep-Dec 2009: Greater Cape Town

From September to December 2009, Reach4Sight is busy with clinics for underprivileged communities in the greater Cape Town area. A particular focus is being placed on schools in underprivileged areas, where parents can't afford eye care for their children, and on children's homes, including those for abused children given refuge from dire circumstances in informal settlements.

In October, an eye care clinic was conducted for healthcare workers and patients at the
False Bay Hospital's HIV clinic, which runs a
Positive Beadwork project. This project tries to give HIV positive women a chance to learn a skill and provide a small income - and therefore access to better nutrition - for their families. Since beadwork is an intricate task requiring good vision, Reach4Sight's assistance has been invaluable to these women.
