April 2008: Kalahari, Northern Cape
In April 2008 Reach4Sight returned to the Kalahari, this time to Groot Mier, Klein Mier, Philandersbron, Loubos and Rietfontein on the Namibian border, more than 300 kilometres away from the nearest optometrist at Upington.

On this occasion the sponsors were Ethix Eyewear for spectacle frames, Hoya Hill Optics SA for lenses and fitting, Optic Trade Links and Carl Zeiss for spectacle cases, and Welch Allyn, who donated a rechargeable lithium ion handle for a retinoscope.

With the aid of an auto-refractor, optometrist Keith Reid examined some 520 patients, including 200 schoolchildren at three schools. He prescribed 210 pairs of spectacles and referred 30 patients, mainly for lens implants for cataracts.
